4×4 Ute - what to get?

Postby The Chad » 16 Jan 2013, 13:25

Ok experts.

Looking to get a new Ute, but don't know what to get.
Test driven these so far;
Hilux SR5
Holden Colorado
Isuzu Dmax
Ford Ranger XLT
Mazda BT-
Nissan Navara (d22 and d40)

All latest gen brand new. Needs to be a dual cab.

So I know what they're like on the road, but I have no idea what they are like off road or towing.

From personal experience Id stay away from anything with electronic 4wd system. I think that just leaves the Hilux  When I was buyin my car (a Rodeo) I was originally looking for a hilux but couldnt find a decent one in my price range.

So Hilux.

The only thing I didn't like about the Hilux is it's weak arse towing capacity.

I know what you mean about the electronic 4be systems, unfortunately the only other one is a d22 Navara

The Triton looks like a jacked up magna, so crossed that off the list straight away.

Oh, the RAnger now has the same towing capacity as the Colorado but no known issues that i can find...

I need to tow machinery which could weigh up to 2.5T
So, 2.5T + trailer will be close to 3.5T.

It's a dual cab ute, they all have square wheels & no suspension.

The triton isn't a bad thing, can get them with a factory rear diff lock, personally I'd be looking at the d22 or the triton.

at least there will be heaps of room for his turban, crafty curry niggers built the cab in those thing like a block of flats to accommodate their towel heads.

Triton's are a piece of shit.
Just drove one and had to punch myself in the nads to distract from the pain. Clunky as fuck. It's a boat mother-fuck er!

D22 was solid today. Definitely a work Ute. Pretty sure ill get bored of it though.

funny thing is the original great wall 4x4 thing looks very similar in front end styling to the current colorado, i think they were onto something. :? :vomit:

wasn't the 240 the older rodeo cab, rather than the d-max/colorado generation. ?

might have been, our dealership has nothing to do with the great walls as our boss hates chinese shit

I race with the guy who runs the holden in the next town over and they have the great wall dealership as well.
he said the part numbers are the same as isuzu But if you order it through a great wall distributer its
almost half the price, even though they are using the same part number and sourcing from isuzu

I liked the D-Max. Was just a bit noisy/clunky

D22 is a good trusty ute, but not enough bling considering my budget :boss:
